Hitting and pitching sessions at the Pearl Factory have long been integrated into the Neptune Beach experience. One of the few remaining batting-cage facilities remaining in the East Bay, the Pearl Factory is an all-weather facility located in Alameda's South Shore Center, and is part of the curriculum for our local and travel age-group teams.
Our local (Alameda) and travel teams compete in seven age-division classifications (10-18) each fall, with our 13U and !4U travel teams also playing spring ball. Pearl travel teams compete in tournaments throughout the Bay Area, are overseen by some of NorCal's most accomplished coaches, and offer a heightened level of competition that will enhance any ballplayer's value to his/her Little League, Babe Ruth or high school team.
Currently the head varsity baseball coach at Las Lomas H.S. in Walnut Creek, Scott previously coached for his high school and college alma maters -- St Mary's College H.S. in Berkeley (head coach) and Cal State-Monterey Bay (pitching coach). The Alameda native co-founded the Pearl with Dustin Chavez in 2011.
Currently an assistant baseball coach under Tully at Los Lomas H.S., Dustin starred in baseball and played soccer at St. Joseph Notre Dame H.S. in Alameda. He previously served as baseball assistant at his high school alma mater, as well as St. Mary's College H.S. in Berkeley. The Pearl co-founder runs the travel teams.
Matt also is on Tully's staff at Los Lomas, specializing in strength and conditioning. The former bodybuilder participated in multiple sports at East Union H.S. in Manteca. Matt has been the day-to-day coach for every level of the Pearl's camps and Fall Ball since 2013. Matt also runs the batting cages at the Pearl Factory in Alameda.

My wife, who has forgotten more about marketing than I'll ever know, taught me a life lesson that day: Focus on what you can control. In his zeal to conjure a humpback for his clients, the whale boat operator ignored the bounty all around him: the rare perspective of passing under the Golden Gate Bridge; a pod of bottlenose dolphins frolicking just off the starboard side; and the up-close look at the mysterious Farallon Islands, which are mere bumps on the horizon from any vantage point on land. Any of these events -- but certainly the lot of them -- might have made his customers feel they got their money's worth for booking passage.
Since our founding in 2011, Neptune Beach has been a 501 (c)(3) organization that contributes to the betterment of Alameda and surrounding communities through the discipline, teamwork and history-rich game of baseball. Our camp and league fees cover only a fraction of our operating expenses, and our generation-old Pearl Factory -- one of just a few indoor hitting-and-pitching facilities remaining in the East Bay -- is in dire need of an upgrade. We rely on the support of Pearl alums, parents and business owners like you as we embark on our next dozen years as a linchpin for families and community alike.
