Matt Borges, Pearl Coach

Coach Matt is the only member of Pearl's fulltime coaching staff that isn't an Alameda native;  he grew up in Manteca, where he was a multi-sports participant at East Union H.S. Yet he is ubiquitous in Alameda, having been the day-to-day coach of a generation of Pearl campers and league participants. Coach Matt joined the Neptune Beach staff in 2013, just two years after co-founders Scott Tully and Dustin Chavez founded the Neptune Beach program. In 2022, he joined Coach Tully's staff at Las Lomas H.S. in Walnut Creek.

A former bodybuilder, Coach Matt has served as the strength and conditioning coach at every stop of his coaching odyssey. But his skills have also translated to the diamond, where his emphasis on infield defense has made him an invaluable asset.  In 2023, he took over head-coaching duties of the Lafayette Oaks program from Coach Tully after serving as his assistant for two years. Coach Matt's Balance, Strength & Power (BSP) camps over the winter break have helped hundreds develop proper baseball conditioning routines over the past decade.
